During this time he had various school runs, taking children with special needs to and from school. Chris then decided he wanted to do something further and went to Derby University for 3 years. He graduated with a 2:1 BA (Hons) degree in applied Social Work. He then went on to work as a support worker where he gained further experience working with adults and children with various conditions and needs.

James the youngest child was born with Microcephaly which resulted in Anne finally giving up clerical part time work. James started at Menphys and also a mainstream playgroup that his Brother and Sister had attended , Anne started to work at the playgroup and remained there for 11 years, resulting in her attending many advancement courses and attained the level of NVQ4 in Child Care, Learning and Development before leaving to set up SNACS with Chris.

Support Worker - Vicky initially undertook training for Early Years education upon leaving school.  She was then given the opportunity to work for the Alzheimer’s Society.  She continued working in dementia care for the following eleven years, during which time,  Vicky was able to attain the position of team leader of a specialist dementia unit at a local care home, where she obtained an NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care.  Vicky found the role was evolving into an office based position and preferred a more hands on approach with the clients and so decided to take up a new challenge within the world of learning disabilities.  Vicky is a very friendly and chatty member of staff with excellent communication and interaction skills.  Vicky enjoys cooking as a hobby and has a passion to share this knowledge with our clients on a weekly basis.  Vicky is married and has a young pre-school daughter.

Volunteer - Maureen is retired, after 40 years working in Special Schools and felt that she had both time and experience to share.  Maureen says that she enjoys coming to SNACS.  The staff and clients are very welcoming and there is always something interesting going on.

Volunteer - Marissa is Chris & Anne’s daughter who, during term time is away at University studying Marine Biology.  Marissa has grown up with James and therefore is very capable of working with people who have a learning disability.  Marissa volunteers when she is home from university and is very much welcomed back by our clients.

Volunteer - Zaifa is Marissa’s boyfriend who has been living with us for the past two years.  Zaifa is now also away at University during term time, studying Photography and volunteers during his Uni breaks.  Zaifa has a sister with a learning disability and therefore has plenty of experience with special needs.  He has a very good rapport with all of our clients and our son James and again is very much welcomed back by all.
